They describe a behavior of people dressing in clothing of a gender that is different from the gender they were assigned (usually at birth) or the gender they are living in. What hurt me the most was that people assumed I was a lesbian, a crossdresser. The gay and lesbian rights movement after the Stonewall riots weakened tranvestism's linking with homosexuality, since more lesbians and gays became visible and most of them did not show cross-dresser behaviour. I haven't bumped and grinded, and I could become a cross-dresser if I wanted. And if a person could not be "cured" of crossdresser behaviour, it seemed the best to make them "change sex".
